Parent Book Club
Our counselor and librarian will be facilitating a parent book club this Spring in the Town Center library, and we would love for you to attend! It will be a great time to get to know and collaborate with other parents. The book study will start towards the end of March and go through April. It will be a total of five sessions, with each session lasting one hour. All participants will receive a free copy of the book, and it will be yours to keep. If you are interested in attending/learning more, fill out the link below. This will help our facilitators pick the day that works best for everyone and gauge interest in the book club.

Book Fair Volunteers

Lions, and Tigers and Books Oh My! Our Spring book fair is March 2nd - 6th, and would love to have parents volunteer. Please sign up on the link below.

Second Grade Field Trip
Second grade will be traveling to the Perot Museum on Thursday, April 30th. The cost of the field trip for each child will be $12 including museum entrance and bus coverage. Please return the permission slip and cash or check by Friday, March 6th. If you are interested in chaperoning, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher. The cost of chaperone tickets is $6. You will be responsible for your own transportation and parking fee.

What are we learning?

Math: In math this week, learners will model, create, and describe contextual multiplication and division situations to show mastery of understanding.

Language Arts: In reading, learners will be analyzing characters in their books and describing their characteristic traits (inside and outside). In writing, learners will be brainstorming and writing about space to integrate with what they are learning in science. In grammar, learners will practice spelling words with the long vowel sounds.

Science: In science, learners will finish their study on observing, describing, and recording patterns of objects in the sky, including the appearance of the Moon.

Social Studies: In social studies, learners will learn about producers and consumers as well as the difference between goods and services.

Giving Tree & Canned Food Drive
Second grade is currently in first place for the number of cans brought in for the canned food drive. Each morning the total number of cans for the grade level is announced on KTEX.

Early Release
Mark your calendars for early release on December 20th. Learners will be dismissed at 12:15 PM on this day. Please plan accordingly for your child's pick up arrangements.


PJ Day
On December 18th, second grade will have a grade level PJ day. If the feels like temperature is above 40* then we will go outside for recess. Please send appropriate outerwear and shoes. 


Winter Party
Our TCE winter parties will take place on Thursday, December 19th at 2 PM. If you are available, we would love to have you join in on the fun. No worries if you cannot come, we will have plenty of fun and love to go around. 


Winter Break
Please note that we will be closed from December 23rd - January 3rd. We hope this is a joyful time of memories made with your loved ones. School will resume on Monday, January 6th at 7:40 AM. 


Yearbook Orders

Rock Wall
 We are lucky to have a rock wall in our Town Center gym, and learners will being to have the chance to use it in upcoming PE classes. Coach T. will work with learners on technique and safety, and we are excited to have it back in use again. Stay tuned for pictures in the coming weeks! 

Play It Safe Guidance Program
On Monday, your child brought home a note regarding the spring Play It Safe program that our counselor will provide to each grade level. The note gives you the chance to opt-out of your child participating if you so choose. If you have any questions about the program or would like to preview the materials, please reach out to our campus counselor - Kelly Matlock at kmatlock@coppellisd.com or by phone.

What are we learning?

Math: In math this week, learners will review applying our knowledge and strategies of addition and subtracting 2-digit and 3-digit numbers to word problems. We will continue to provide evidence and proof as we use our word problem detective skills to solve addition and subtraction word problems. Learners will also review knowledge of telling time.

Language Arts: In reading, learners will review various fiction stories, and analyze characters and study how to use a storyteller's voice. In writing, learners will finish writing adapted fairy tales and set goals for their fiction writing. In phonics, learners will review.

Science: In science, learners will use the engineering process to complete different holiday tasks that apply their knowledge of various science skills from the first two nine-weeks of school.

Social Studies: In social studies, learners will finish traveling the world learning different ways that countries celebrate the holidays.

Pumpkin Patch
This fall we will be turning our very own TCE Garden into the TCE Pumpkin Patch! We are so excited about all of the wonderful learning activities and curriculum connections we will be able to make in our school garden! If you would like to help us turn our school garden into the TCE Pumpkin Patch, please consider donating a pumpkin (any size or type) to our garden! You can begin sending in pumpkins as soon as possible, and we will take them to the garden. You can also drop them off in the garden on your own!

CISD Community Tailgate
CISD invites our community to join us for our 3rd annual community tailgate Friday, October 4th from 5:30 p.m. to game kickoff at 7 p.m. The tailgate will be held in the parking lot of Buddy Echols field at Coppell High School in front of the tennis courts. Dinner from Hard 8 BBQ will be available for $5, which includes either of turkey or beef sandwich, two sides and drink. The only way to guarantee a meal is to purchase tickets in advance by the end of the day September 30th. To purchase a ticket, visit https://www.schoolpay.com/pay/for/CISD-Community-Tailgate/SbmIp9B. We also will be celebrating the district's 60th birthday with a Pop Up Party at the Community Tailgate. Join us in celebrating CISD and supporting our Cowboys as they play Hebron High School. Game tickets are still required to enter Buddy Echols Field to watch the game. 


Fall Conferences
Fall conferences are coming up! We have October 11th set aside for parent/teacher conferences. Please sign-up using the link for your child's homeroom teacher.

What are we learning?


Math: In math this week, learners will begin to subtract two-digit numbers using mental strategies and algorithm based on their knowledge of place value. They will apply this knowledge and skills to solve one and two-step word problems involving addition and subtraction.

Reading: In reading workshop this week, learners will become flexible word solvers, using multiple strategies at a time as well as notice beginnings and endings of words so they can read parts of the word quickly. In writing workshop, learners will learn to revise and edit their writing in meaningful ways. We will begin preparing for our end of unit writing celebration. 

Science: In science, learners will explore how materials change their physical properties when we cut, fold, sand and melt them.

Social Studies: In social studies this week, learners will learn how leaders help their communities.
