August 31st - September 4th

Welcome second grade families!! Thank you for taking the time to read our second grade blog. It was a great SECOND week of virtual learning in second grade! Thank you so much for being patient and showing so much grace as we worked through some technology troubles. We are excited about the learning that will continue to happen in the coming weeks. Make sure you are checking our blog weekly for calendar updates, what we are learning, and any announcements regarding second grade and TCE.

Announcements

***Logging into Zoom with CISD Credentials***
Beginning Monday, August 31st, CISD will be requiring all learners to sign into Zoom using their CISD email address. This change will allow for better classroom management and will limit disruptions in the event the meeting link is shared with people outside the district.

If your child is using a zoom account not associated with their CISD email address, the next time they sign in, they will need to use their CISD login information -- g.coppellisd.com -- to join the meeting. The district has created documentation for signing into Zoom with their CISD login information, which can be found here.

If your learner is already using their CISD email address to sign into Zoom, they will need to consolidate their account to be managed by the district. Documentation for consolidating the Zoom account can be found here.

Updating iPad iOS
Please make sure that your child's iPad is updated to the latest iOS. This will improve the functioning of many apps, including iStation.

Principal Martin shares out our campus newsletter via email each Friday. Make sure to read her newsletter for information regarding campus news. This week's newsletter can be found linked here.

Materials Pick-up
If your family is continuing distance learning for the rest of the nine weeks, we are offering an opportunity to pick up items from the school that will support your child at home. This is ONLY for families not returning face-to-face beginning September 8th. More information can be found in Principal Martin's weekly newsletter.

Assessment & iStation Help
We recognize that you may want to help your child during their math, writing, and iStation assessments this week, but please refrain from doing so as it does not reflect accurate information on where your child is academically. We need to know what skills they are strong in, as well as skills that they are lacking so that we can help them best this year. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Virtual Curriculum Night
More information coming next week. Be on a lookout for an email from your child's homeroom teacher. If you have not received communication for this event by 3pm Wednesday, September 2nd, reach out to your homeroom teacher.

EPIC Accounts
Be on the lookout for the information coming soon in an email regarding EPIC accounts for your children to use this school year. We are also still waiting on updated RazKids Accounts for this year. We hope to have that available to you soon.

Assignment Help
Parents we are so thankful for your amazing partnership as we navigate virtual learning together. We are looking forward to learning about your child's academic strengths and areas of growth this week as we dive into content-specific assignments. In order to do this, it is important that we have an authentic understanding of your child's abilities through their assignments. We would love for you to help your child understand assignment directions and answer simple questions your child may have during the day. We are asking that when they are working on their assignments for you to not intervene if they make a mistake. Mistakes are how we learn and seeing what your child is able to do independently is an important part of our roles as teachers. Thank you so much for all you are doing to partner with us this year. We could not do this without all of YOU!!!

What are we learning?

Math: This week learners will recognize patterns on a hundreds chart. Learners can use an understanding of place value to say a number is 10 more or 10 less than a given number up to 100. Learners can determine where a number up to 40 is even or odd using pairings of objects.
