January Holiday Coupon
Second grade will redeem our January coupon from the holiday coupon book on Friday, January 31st. Learners may dress comfy/wear PJs on this day! Please send a coat and wear appropriate shoes. 


Yearbook Deadline EXTENDED
The yearbook deadline has been extended. The FINAL day to order yearbooks is Monday, January 27th. Order online before Monday if you would like a yearbook for the 2019-2020 school year. 

Spring Creek BBQ Spirit Night

Mark your calendars to join us in a few weeks at Spring Creek BBQ for our TCE Spirit Night. A portion of the proceeds will benefit TCE, and some of our TCE staff will serve as guest hosts for the evening. The three classes with the most participants will each receive a keychain, $10 gift card, and a Spring Creek BBQ shirt which will get you free ice cream anytime you wear it to Spring Creek BBQ. We hope to see you all there!

What are we learning?

Math: In math this week, learners will generate and solve problems situations for a given mathematical number sentence involving addition and subtraction of whole numbers within 1,000.

Language Arts: In reading, learners will compare books and notice when authors play with words. In writing, learners will continue to write poems and work on writing their own comparisons. In grammar, learners will practice capitalizing names.

Science: In science, learners will take the weather information they have gathered from their weather research and graph to see patterns in the weather of two different cities.

Social Studies: In social studies, learners will continue studying maps and symbols.

What are we learning?

Math: In math this week, learners will continue to represent numbers up to 1,200 in standard, expanded, and word forms. Learners will also compare and order numbers up to 1,200 and generate numbers 100 more/100 less than a given number.

Language Arts: In reading, learners will continue working on fluency as well as learning to pay attention to literary language such as comparisons and figurative language. In writing, learners will edit poetry and also notice word choice and patterns in poetry. Learners will also focus on the grammar of nouns.

Science: In science, learners will continue to measure, record, and graph weather information in order to identify patterns in the data.

Social Studies: In social studies, learners will discuss the importance of Martin Luther King Jr. They will also start making a community map.

Popcorn

A new round of Texan Town begins next Friday, January 17th. If your child would like popcorn you can purchase a subscription for $2.50 for 5 weeks or 50 cents each week. The dates for this round of Texan Town are outlined in the graphic below.

Language Arts: In reading, learners will work on scooping up words in phrases to help with fluency and noticing punctuation to make sure their reading sounds right. In writing, learners will begin reading and writing poetry. In phonics, learners will practice adding -ing and -ed to words, and changing y to i before adding -es or -ed. They will also practice words that end in -tion.

Science: In science, learners will measure, record, and graph weather information in order to identify patterns in the data.

Social Studies: In social studies, learners will finish traveling the world learning different ways that countries celebrate the holidays.
