Reminders from your Second Grade Teachers
*iPads - Please remember to send your child's iPad each day to school fully charged.
*Headphones - Please check with your child that they have working headphones/earbuds at school. Learners have many times when they are watching a video or can listen to directions and/or books and apps that need audio. Thank you so much for your help with this!
*Snack - We have a short snack time each day. It is important that they have a healthy and nutritious snack each day to fuel their bodies. We also ask that the snack you send be completely free of peanuts/tree nuts. This will help provide a safe environment for all learners.
Dallas Zoo Field Trip
Second grade will be traveling to the Dallas Zoo for our grade level field trip on Thursday, May 5th. We will be leaving the school around 9:00 am and returning around 2:00 pm. Students should plan on packing a paper sack lunch that does not need to be refrigerated and disposable drink to throw away (no glass containers) or buy a sack lunch from the cafeteria on the day of the field trip. Your child will need to wear their gray grade-level t-shirt or another TCE shirt would be appreciated. More details and information for parents and chaperones will be sent out closer to the dates of our field trip! Thank you for turning in all of the needed forms and fees and thank you to the parents/caregivers that have volunteered to chaperone!!
End of Year/Summer Resources
It's hard to believe that we are coming to the end of the year. We will be sending home optional resources at the end of May that you can use to supplement your child's learning at home over the summer to prevent the summer slide! If you have any concerns about your child please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher or content area teacher (Trueblood-writing/science, Bowman-math, Judd-reading/social studies). We will not be offering end-of-year conferences after May 13th due to the crazy schedule that occurs at the end of the year.

What we are learning?
Math - In Math, learners will explain that the more fractional parts used to make a whole, the smaller the part; and the fewer the fraction parts, the larger the part. Learners will also use models to count fraction parts beyond one whole using words and recognize how many parts it takes to equal one whole.

Optional Fractions Practice Papers for Home
Optional Addition & Subtraction Practice Papers for Home
Reading- In Reading this week, learners will use the mentor text Old Elm Speaks to analyze poetry and look at poetic devices such as onomatopoeia, alliteration, and personification. In PHonics, learners will conclude their review of nouns, verbs, and adjectives.
Writing- In writing, learners have been doing a great job researching a non-fiction topic. They have used at least 3 different resources to collect information. They will now be looking at their research notes and writing them in paragraph form, focusing on writing goals and skills.
Social Studies- In Social Studies, learners will wrap up our economics unit by having a Market Day! Over the next few weeks, learners will develop goods to make and then "sell" to their classmates. Most goods will involve using supplies that can be easily found at school, but others may require items to be sent in from home. Be on the lookout for more information if supplies are needed.
Science - In Science learners will be connecting organisms in a similar habitat through a food chain.
