March 30th - April 3rd

As we continue our second week of virtual learning we are hoping for the second-grade blog to become a place you can refer back to for resources, objectives, and announcements.

Announcements

iStation
Starting next week, learners will be required to spend 45 minutes on iStation each week. They can break it up and log on for 15 minutes three times a week, or however works best for your schedule. Also, since next week is the start of a new month, learners will need to complete their ISIP assessment on iStation. They will do this on Wednesday as part of their reading assignment that day. All they will need to do is log onto iStation and click "Reading with ISIP" on that day and it will automatically take them to the assessment. It should take anywhere from 20-45 minutes approximately. Please make sure they are not receiving assistance while they are taking the assessment as we use the data results to help us design instruction. If you have any questions regarding iStation, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Judd or Ms. McGraw.

DreamBox

Starting next week, learners will be required to complete at least 5 lessons on DreamBox each week. These can be completed all at once or spread out throughout the week as your family sees the best fit. We ask that learners complete any assigned lesson (marked with a blue calendar) before picking which lesson they would like to complete. To view their lessons completed each week, learners can click on the image of their avatar in the top-left corner of the screen.

Reflex Math
Each learner is required each week to work on Reflex Math three times a week for approximately 20 minutes. Our goal is for learners to earn a green light 3 times a week. Although the Green Light depends on students correctly answering facts, not time used, students can typically get the Green Light in 15 minutes of concentrated use. Read here to learn more about how to help your child successfully achieve a green light three times a week.

Imagine Learning
Imagine Learning is a program used with select EL learners. If your child had Imagine Learning login information on their login sheet, we ask that they are using for approximately 20-30 minutes daily (Monday-Friday). Please make sure that your child is finishing their lesson before logging out. If a learner logs out before their lesson is complete, they will have to start it over upon their next login.

KTEX
We want to encourage our learners to watch our campus announcements, KTEX, each day. You can access each day through the morning message slide, as well as the picture above. (the link is the same each day) Be on the lookout for more guest appearances of different TCE staff each day. Next week your child will want to make sure to tune in for some furry guests on KTEX for Pet Week!

Technology Support
As we continue to learn and navigate Schoology through distance learning we will continue to create resources as a second grade team, TCE campus, and district to help navigate Schoology. Here are a few resources we've shared out this week. Continue to check back as we plan on updating regularly as needs and resources arise.

Read Alouds
Several of our TCE staff have begun sharing some read aloud recordings of their favorite books! Our hope is that these provide some joy for your children at home. Mrs. Mancuso, our fabulous librarian, is also sharing these videos in her TCE Library group (not course) in Schoology.

The Squirrels Who Squabbled with Ms. Matlock

A Place for Pluto! with Ms. Martin

Second Grade Field Trip
We are grateful for the many second grade parents willing to chaperone our second-grade field trip to the Perot Museum on Thursday, April 30th. Please remember that you must have a CISD background check for the 2019-2020 school year on file in order to attend. You may create an account and fill out a background request by visiting the CISD website volunteering page. If you are unsure if you have a background check on file, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher.

Multiplication and Division Practice

Our wonderful second-grade teacher, Ms. McGraw, is getting married over spring break! She will be out of the classroom March 16th-20th. If you are a 2A/2B parent, you may contact Mrs. Bowman (abowman@coppellisd.com) if you need something addressed during this time. Any message that is time-sensitive that may need to be passed along to your child can be relayed to the front office. Science: In science, learners observe, describe, and compare rocks by size, texture, and color.

As we begin our study about rocks, we will be learning how rocks are alike and how they are different. In order to do this, we will be sorting rocks by color, texture, size, etc. Please help your child find three rocks, put them in a Ziploc bag, and return them to school by Tuesday, March 17th. IT would be best if each of these rocks were different from each other in some way. For example different sizes, shapes, colors, etc. You are welcome t send in a small rock or mineral collection if you have one. Thank you for helping your child find their rocks for this sorting activity!
