Thank you to all our second-grade families who were able to attend curriculum night! We've had a great first few weeks of learning in second grade and we LOVED getting to share with you all that we'll learn this year. We've included information below. As a reminder, email is the best way to contact us if you need to get a message to your child's teacher or have a question. If your question is content specific please contact the teacher that teaches that subject. If it is a general question, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
Breakfast
Just like our school lunches, breakfast is also free, throughout the 2021-2022 school year. We love for our second graders to enjoy breakfast, as it starts off their day with their brains and bodies fueled! However, our ask is that if your child is planning on eating breakfast, please plan on having them arrive between 7:20-7:25. Our learning day begins promptly at 7:40 and we don't want any of our kiddos missing out on the amazing learning happening in the classroom. If your child arrives between 7:20-7:25 they will have enough time to eat their breakfast in the cafeteria before heading down to the classroom.
Curriculum Night
Thank you to all of our second-grade families that joined us last night for curriculum night! If you were unable to attend, we have shared out the recorded video link in ParentSquare in our Friday communication on September 3rd. We have included our slides below from the presentation. All questions we received were addressed in the slides below and the video recording that has been sent out.
Book Fair
This fall we have both in-person and online options for purchasing books from our Scholastic Book Fair. Due to our current visitor policy and to provide a way for our virtual learners to purchase as well, we are excited about the online option in addition to our face-to-face book fair. Please see below important information:
Teacher Wishlists:
Due to not having visitors in the building, we will not have our usual teacher wishlist buckets at the Book Fair. In place of our teacher wishlist, TCE teachers have created an eWallet for each classroom in place of teacher wishlists. This gives families the optional opportunity to donate funds to teacher accounts so that teachers may shop for books to be used in their classrooms.

Book Fair Online Shopping - Opens Thursday, September 2nd!
- Visit this link to purchase books that will be shipped directly to your house.
- Both in-person and virtual learners can choose this option.
Shopping in the TCE Library - Begins, Tuesday, September 7th
- For in-person learners only (families/visitors will not be able to attend)
- We encourage you to use the eWallet feature. Instead of sending cash with your child, you can create an eWallet account and place a predetermined amount of money on the account for your child(ren) to shop the Book Fair in person. To create an eWallet go to this link.
Thank you for supporting book choice and TCE!

What we are learning?
Math - In math, we will use standard form (ex: 97), word form (ex: ninety-seven), and expanded form (ex: 90+7) to represent numbers up to 100.
Reading- In reading, learners will "think about their thinking" (metacognition) with an emphasis on keeping tabs on their comprehension. In Phonics, learners will explore the fun of homophones.
Writing/Grammar- In writing, we will continue writing personal narratives, adding dialogue to our story. In grammar, we will identify and use types of nouns, including Pronouns and Proper Nouns.
Social Studies- In social studies, we will start our unit on historical figures who have shown good citizenship and leadership. Learners will choose a historical figure and begin their first research project of the year.
Science - In science, we will be looking at Complex Physical Changes. We will predict how physical changes affect objects, such as heating and cooling, as well as predict which physical changes go back to get back to their original state.
