Terrific Texans
Throughout the week our learners at TCE work hard at going above and beyond! When any teacher catches them standing out in a positive way they are awarded a Terrific Texan. At the end of the week, there is a school-wide drawing and 3 winners are chosen from each grade level.

Congratulations to our Terrific Texans this week:

Don't Forget - Saturday is the deadline to order food for the TCE Spring Family Picnic!

We are excited to have In-N-Out Food Truck join us at our TCE Spring Picnic on Thursday, May 2nd from 6:00-7:30 PM. Pre-order is required. They have several options to choose from, including a vegetarian option. Below is the link to pre-order by Saturday, April 27th. The meals are $5 each and include a grilled cheese, hamburger, or cheeseburger; chips; and a soft drink. Our Town Center PTO receives 75% of the sale proceeds, and the remaining 25% goes to In-N-Out's Slave2Nothing Foundation (In-N-Out Burger created the Slave 2 Nothing® Foundation to open paths to freedom for those who are enslaved by any person or substance).

Smart Watches

We have noticed that more and more of our students have begun wearing smartwatches to school, so we want to take a minute to be clear about expectations for those devices.

Students are not permitted to communicate on their personal devices during the school day. (The same rule applies to their iPads.) This includes parents. Additionally, smartwatches are only to be used to tell time during the day. Please help us in reinforcing this expectation.  If you need to contact your son/daughter during the day, please email your child's teacher or call the front office.

We have talked about these expectations with the students. We've let them know that if they are using their smart watch, cell phone, or other personal devices to communicate (or use any additional feature beyond telling time), they will receive one warning. After that one warning, we will ask for those devices to stay at home.

Learners will also describe (using academic vocabulary) the inverse relationship between the size of the unit and the number of units needed to equal the length of objects.
Reading Workshop - In Reading, learners will look at character feelings using the mentor text Library Lion. They will also work in various reading rotations with a focus on homophones and story problems & solutions.
Each Thursday we go to the library to read. Make sure to bring your books back so you can return and check out new books each week!
Writing Workshop- In writing, learners will finish up their current writing pieces and take it through the publishing process.
Social Studies- In Social Studies, learners will finish up the production of their products in preparation for our big Market Day. As our unit concludes, they will have a chance to participate as both a producer and a consumer during Market Day and will also need to work within a budget.

What are we learning?

Math Workshop - In Math, learners will partition objects into equal parts and name the parts, including halves, fourths, and eighths. Learners will tell a classmate how an object is partitioned into fractional parts. Learners will also explain that the more fractional parts used to make a whole, the smaller the part; and the fewer the fractional parts, the larger the part. Learners will also use models to count fractional parts beyond one whole using words and recognize how many parts it takes to equal one whole.
Reading Workshop - In Reading, learners will continue book clubs using the mentor text Sable and respond to questions using evidence from the text.
Each Thursday we go to the library to read. Make sure to bring your books back so you can return and check out new books each week!
