We were able to get to know one another, learn to navigate zoom and Schoology together! We are excited about the learning that will continue to happen in the coming weeks. Make sure you are checking our blog weekly for calendar updates, what we are learning, and any announcements regarding second grade and TCE.

Week at a GlanceWe have updated our week at a glance for this upcoming week with assignments and zoom times. You will notice that we have created a section specific tab (2A, 2B, 2C, 2D) at the bottom of our google sheet since our specials LIVE times are more fluid this week. In addition to this being in the blog, we will have these housed in your child's homeroom hub as well.

Assignment HelpParents we are so thankful for your amazing partnership as we navigate virtual learning together. We are looking forward to learning about your child's academic strengths and areas of growth this week as we dive into content-specific assignments. In order to do this, it is important that we have an authentic understanding of your child's abilities through their assignments. We would love for you to help your child understand assignment directions and answer simple questions your child may have during the day. We are asking that when they are working on their assignments for you to not intervene if they make a mistake. Mistakes are how we learn and seeing what your child is able to do independently is an important part of our roles as teachers. Thank you so much for all you are doing to partner with us this year. We could not do this without all of YOU!!!
What are we learning?
Math: This week learners will recognize patterns on a hundreds chart. Learners can use an understanding of place value to say a number is 10 more or 10 less than a given number up to 100. Learners can determine where a number up to 40 is even or odd using pairings of objects.
Language Arts: In Reading Workshop, we will set up expectations for workshop time and independent reading. In Writing Workshop we will explore small moment writing and write stories from our heart. In Phonics we will review word parts and vowel teams. In Grammar, we will explore the types of sentences.
Science: This week learners will learn science processes and how to "do science". Learners will talk about what scientists do and how they use tools to help them investigate in a safe manner.
Social Studies: We will begin our unit on citizenship, looking at ways that we can be good citizens both in school and in our community. We will also explore Rosa Parks as part of Women's Independence Day on August 26th.
