They will take it off for the picture.

Black Walnut Spirit Night

What are we learning?

Math: In math, learners will model, create, and describe contextual division situations in which equivalent sets of concrete objects are separated.

Language Arts: In Reading Workshop, learners will explore the use of language and the plot of stories. They will also be continuing with book clubs. Remember to keep up with your weekly iStation requirement and your Reading Logs!

In Writing Workshop we will continue writing letters about books, backing up our opinions by retelling parts of the story and giving specific examples. We will have fun using idioms in our writing.

Science: In science, learners will measure, record, and graph weather information regarding cloud coverage.

Social Studies: In Social Studies learners will explore, and be able to identify, natural and man-made resources. They will also look at how these resources can affect the environment.

February Class Parties RESCHEDULED
Our campus has made the decision to move our second party of the year to May instead of the usual February Valentine's Day Party. We will still do some type of activity for the holiday, however, we will not have our usual full party or exchanged paper valentines/goodies. We look forward to planning the end of the year party with our room parents.

Reminder: A note from our counselor!
During the month of February, our counselor will teach all learners about personal safety using the "Play it Safe" program. "Play it Safe" is a child abuse awareness and prevention program for children. It teaches children to protect themselves by recognizing, reacting to, and reporting potentially dangerous situations, including unsafe and confusing touches.

For more information, please visit the "Play it Safe" website. All curriculum materials are available for your viewing during the month of January. Also, feel free to contact our counselor, Kelly Matlock, at kmatlock@coppellisd.com if you have any questions.

Free Breakfast and Lunch
The Child Nutrition Department is happy to announce that free meals for all in-person elementary students and free bundle meals for virtual learners have been extended through the rest of the 2020-2021 school year. In-person learners are able to go through the cafeteria line as usual and will not be charged for meals (snack food and dessert such as ice cream are available for an additional cost). We are still asking that virtual learners sign up for bundle meals via the Bundle Meal Signup Form to help give an accurate count each week.

Town Center Yearbooks

Our 2020-2021 Town Center Yearbook is now available for purchase. The cost is $25, and they will arrive in the spring. Click here to place your order. **Please note that the yearbook cost is NOT included in the TCE Trail Pass.

What are we learning?

Math: In math, learners will determine the number that is 10 or 100 more or 10 or 100 less than a given number up to 1,200. This is a great skill to practice at home or in the car, simply ask your child "what's 10 [or 100] more than" or "less than" a given number. The more they practice throughout the day, the stronger their skills will grow!

Language Arts: In Reading Workshop, learners will begin their first book club! They will be reading, responding, and discussing their books over the next few weeks. Please be sure to have your learner keep up with all assignments so that they are prepared and do not fall behind. Remember to keep up with your weekly iStation requirement and your Reading Logs!

In Writing Workshop we will begin looking at the structure of a friendly letter to send information to others.

Science: In science, learners will measure, record, and graph weather information regarding precipitation using the appropriate tools. Learners will also record and organize the data collected in a way that makes sense (ie. graphs, tables, charts, etc).

Social Studies: In Social Studies we will continue with our Landforms unit. Learners will continue researching a landform of their choice using books found in EPIC and create a presentation to share what they have learned.

December 11th - Early Release Day
CISD has designated Friday, December 11th, as an early dismissal day for all educators and staff to have additional planning time to meet the needs of our students. Elementary schools will release at 12:30 p.m. Please make pick-up arrangements for your child.

Together at Heart Day
On Thursday, December 17th our entire school will participate in "Together at Heart Day". This a day where we will focus on service learning and helping those in our community that are in need. We will be making cards and holiday door decorations for the residents at St. Joseph Village in Coppell. All second graders can join their homeroom zoom from 9:30-11:00 am for rotations going through instructions for the different creations we will be making for St. Josephs. If you are a virtual learner we will provide all of the supplies needed and you can pick them up on Wednesday, December 16th from 8:00-9:00 a.m. by the front of the school building! After we finish Together at Heart Day we will have a drop off bin for the finished creations at the front of the school during school hours on Thursday (12/17) and Friday (12/18). Second grade has partnered with Ms. Matlock to deliver all of our creations to St. Josephs.

Food and Toy Drive
Kindergarten and First Grade will be working with the Coppell Lions Club to coordinate a food and toy drive at Town Center. This will help to provide food and toys for more than 100 Coppell families during the holidays. We'd love for our learners in grades K-5 to bring canned food items and/or a new, unwrapped toy to donate starting December 1st through December 15th. If you are a face-to-face learner, you may drop your items by the TCE Giving Tree in the front of the school, and canned foods can be put in the boxes at the end of each hallway. Virtual learners may call the front office at 214-496-7800 to make arrangements to drop off your donation in the front loop during school hours. THANK YOU for your support.
