Literacy Assessments
Next week your child will be participating in the Spring round of our mClass literacy assessments. Just like the December assessments, there will be an online portion, as well as a scheduled Zoom time for virtual learners to meet with their LA teachers. For in-person learners, all portions will be completed during the school day.

Be on the lookout for an email on Monday with your child's login information (in-person learners will not be receiving one) and a video on how to access the online assessments. This assessment will need to completed first thing Tuesday morning (March 9th) right after Morning Meetings, and should not take any longer than 15 minutes. Please do not help your child as this needs to be an accurate reflection of their abilities.

The scheduled Zoom portion of the assessment with the LA teachers will be held on Wednesday, March 10th, and Thursday, March 11th. These schedules can be found in your child's homeroom hub. If you have any questions, please reach to your child's LA teacher.

February Class Parties RESCHEDULED
Our campus has made the decision to move our second party of the year to May instead of the usual February Valentine's Day Party. We will still do some type of activity for the holiday, however, we will not have our usual full party or exchanged paper valentines/goodies. We look forward to planning the end of the year party with our room parents.

Reminder: A note from our counselor!
During the month of February, our counselor will teach all learners about personal safety using the "Play it Safe" program. "Play it Safe" is a child abuse awareness and prevention program for children. It teaches children to protect themselves by recognizing, reacting to, and reporting potentially dangerous situations, including unsafe and confusing touches.

For more information, please visit the "Play it Safe" website. All curriculum materials are available for your viewing during the month of January. Also, feel free to contact our counselor, Kelly Matlock, at kmatlock@coppellisd.com if you have any questions.

Free Breakfast and Lunch
The Child Nutrition Department is happy to announce that free meals for all in-person elementary students and free bundle meals for virtual learners have been extended through the rest of the 2020-2021 school year. In-person learners are able to go through the cafeteria line as usual and will not be charged for meals (snack food and dessert such as ice cream are available for an additional cost). We are still asking that virtual learners sign up for bundle meals via the Bundle Meal Signup Form to help give an accurate count each week.

Town Center Yearbooks

Our 2020-2021 Town Center Yearbook is now available for purchase. The cost is $25, and they will arrive in the spring. Click here to place your order. **Please note that the yearbook cost is NOT included in the TCE Trail Pass.

What are we learning?

Math: In math, learners will determine the number that is 10 or 100 more or 10 or 100 less than a given number up to 1,200. This is a great skill to practice at home or in the car, simply ask your child "what's 10 [or 100] more than" or "less than" a given number. The more they practice throughout the day, the stronger their skills will grow!

Language Arts: In Reading Workshop, learners will begin their first book club! They will be reading, responding, and discussing their books over the next few weeks. Please be sure to have your learner keep up with all assignments so that they are prepared and do not fall behind. Remember to keep up with your weekly iStation requirement and your Reading Logs!

In Writing Workshop we will begin looking at the structure of a friendly letter to send information to others.

Science: In science, learners will measure, record, and graph weather information regarding precipitation using the appropriate tools. Learners will also record and organize the data collected in a way that makes sense (ie. graphs, tables, charts, etc).

Social Studies: In Social Studies we will continue with our Landforms unit. Learners will continue researching a landform of their choice using books found in EPIC and create a presentation to share what they have learned.

If your child is virtual, they will need to have access to their rocks for the duration of the week.
