Terrific Texans
Throughout the week our learners at TCE work hard at going above and beyond! When any teacher catches them standing out for exhibiting our character trait of the week they are awarded a Terrific Texan. At the end of the week, there is a school-wide drawing and 3 winners are chosen from each grade level.

Valentine's Day - Valentine and Class Parties
Our class Valentine's Day party will be on Thursday, February 13th at 2:00 p.m. Please have your child address a Valentine's card to each child in their homeroom. The names of the students in your child's homeroom will go home on Tuesday, January 21st. You may attach a small treat to the card (if you would like) but please make sure all treats are peanut/tree nut-free. Bring cards with them to school before Thursday, February 13th! Parents are welcome to join on the day of the parties. If you plan on attending you will need to check in at the front office using your ID. All grade-level parties will be happening at 2:00 so please plan accordingly for parking/check-in.

Coppell Cares
Coppell Cares offers the Weekend Backpack Program for families who have financial need. Each Friday, learners receive a bag of snacks for the weekend. The goal of the program is to help eliminate food insecurity for children. They provide nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack items to eligible CISD children (and siblings). This weekly food program helps feed children over the weekend during the school year when they are not receiving meals at school.

If you would like your child(ren) to participate in this program, please complete the online application below. If you would prefer a paper copy to be sent home with your child, please email TCE's counselor, Kelly Matlock at kmatlock@coppellisd.com. Families may sign up for this program at any time during the school year. Deliveries will begin Friday, September 6th. Deliveries will be suspended for Thanksgiving week, Winter Break, and Spring Break.

Math Workshop - In math workshop, learners will model, create, and describe contextual multiplication situations in which equivalent sets of concrete objects are joined. Learners will listen to a multiplication situation read aloud and create a corresponding model.

Reading Workshop -  Our readers will be celebrating their LOVE of reading and stories with some Valentine mentor texts.  We will be retelling them using the Somebody Wanted But So format. In phonics, we will be practicing reading and spelling words with -ing.

Writing Workshop - I can write poems using different structures. In Grammar, we will be learning about coordinating conjunctions.

Social Studies - In Social Studies, we will learn about major landforms and bodies of water, including each of the seven continents and each of the oceans, on maps and globes.

Science - In Science, learners will describe, measure, and record the weather, including temperature and precipitation, and identify the tools used to measure temperature and precipitation.

  • Ask your child to share what topic they used this week for their graphing project. Ask if the results they got were surprising? What was their favorite part of the project? What part of the graphic project was the most challenging?
  • What are some tools you can use to measure weather?
  • After your child reads, ask them to tell you what the story, chapter or book is mostly about, helping them to determine the main idea.
  • Practicing reading out loud is a GREAT way to build fluency!  Got a shy reader that doesn't like reading in front of an audience?  Let them record themselves on their iPad as they read and listen to it back.
  • Working on reading high frequency words fluently is a great way to build reading skills!  Check out the lists we work with and challenge your learner to practice them using these activities!
