Terrific Texans
Throughout the week our learners at TCE work hard at going above and beyond! When any teacher catches them standing out for exhibiting our character trait of the week they are awarded a Terrific Texan. At the end of the week, there is a school-wide drawing and 3 winners are chosen from each grade level.

Valentine's Day - Valentine and Class Parties
Our class Valentine's Day party will be on Thursday, February 13th at 2:00 p.m. Please have your child address a Valentine's card to each child in their homeroom. The names of the students in your child's homeroom will go home on Tuesday, January 21st. You may attach a small treat to the card (if you would like) but please make sure all treats are peanut/tree nut-free. Bring cards with them to school before Thursday, February 13th! Parents are welcome to join on the day of the parties. If you plan on attending you will need to check in at the front office using your ID. All grade-level parties will be happening at 2:00 so please plan accordingly for parking/check-in.

We will be decorating Valentines' bags (to collect our Valentines in) at school the week of February 3rd! If you would like to donate any stamps, doilies, or things to decorate our bags, we would greatly appreciate it!

Coppell Cares
Coppell Cares offers the Weekend Backpack Program for families who have financial need. Each Friday, learners receive a bag of snacks for the weekend. The goal of the program is to help eliminate food insecurity for children. They provide nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack items to eligible CISD children (and siblings). This weekly food program helps feed children over the weekend during the school year when they are not receiving meals at school.

If you would like your child(ren) to participate in this program, please complete the online application below. If you would prefer a paper copy to be sent home with your child, please email TCE's counselor, Kelly Matlock at kmatlock@coppellisd.com. Families may sign up for this program at any time during the school year. Deliveries will begin Friday, September 6th. Deliveries will be suspended for Thanksgiving week, Winter Break, and Spring Break.

Math Workshop - In math workshop, learners will celebrate the 100th day of school on Monday! Learners will organize a collection of data with up to four categories by using pictographs and bar graphs with intervals of one or more. Learners will write and solve one-step word problems involving addition and subtraction by using data represented within pictographs and bar graphs with intervals of one, drawing conclusions, and making predictions from information in a graph.

Reading Workshop -  Our readers are learning about reading with a partner and how the discussions help us understand what we read.  We are also practicing strategies to break words into parts.  Using our super reader skills, we will explore how prefixes and suffixes change the meaning of words.

Writing Workshop - I can write poems using different structures. We are learning about using imagery, literal language, and figurative language in our writing. In Grammar we are continue to learn about pronouns.

Social Studies - Where in the world are our 2nd graders?  They might just be moving to the mountains!  We will be studying landforms as we continue our geography unit.

Science - In Science, learners will describe, measure, and record the weather, including temperature and precipitation, and identify the tools used to measure temperature and precipitation.

  • Checkout Greg Tang Word Problem Generator! Set your number range to 1-1,000. Then set your problem and unknown to random. Show off your amazing skills in solving word problems!
  • How is the algorithm related to other addition and subtraction strategies you've learned this year?
  • How do objects in space look different with and without a telescope?
  • Ask your child what is the difference between the word unhappy and the word unicorn!  Then, ask them to tell you more words with un-, pre- and re- prefixes.
  • Practicing reading out loud is a GREAT way to build fluency!  Got a shy reader that doesn't like reading in front of an audience?  Let them record themselves on their iPad as they read and listen to it back.
  • Working on reading high frequency words fluently is a great way to build reading skills!  Check out the lists we work with and challenge your learner to practice them using these activities!
