Terrific Texans
Throughout the week our learners at TCE are working hard at going above and beyond! When any teacher catches them standing out in a positive way they are awarded a Terrific Texan. At the end of the week, there is a school-wide drawing and 3 winners are chosen from each grade level.
Congratulations to our Terrific Texans this week:

Second Grade Field Trip - KidZania

We have some exciting news in second grade! We are going on a FIELD TRIP to KidZania on Thursday, March 28th. While at KidZania we will explore immersive, hands-on, real-world jobs. Second grade LOVED this field trip last year and we’re excited to get to go again!!

Thursday, January 25th, your child brought home a permission slip and letter outlining our field trip, including the cost and due date (March 1st). Due to KidZania policies restricting chaperone numbers, we will not take any parent chaperones on this field trip. Additional TCE teachers will join us to ensure all our learners' safety. KidZania is closed to outside guests on field trip days. This ensures the safety of all students and prohibits anyone from purchasing a ticket and entering as an outside guest. Please let us know if you have any questions.

PTO Valentine's Dance - Friday, February 9th

PTO is hosting a Family Valentine's Dance on February 9th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the TCE gym. Families can purchase tickets through February 4th, using the link below. Tickets include a dessert, a drink, and a favor from the PTO.

Tennis Shoes for PE & Extended Specials Day (CTT)

Please help make sure that your child wears appropriate shoes on PE days and Move & Groove (Fridays). Additionally, every other Tuesday second grade has extended specials during CTT. The dates are outlined for the remainder of the year below. Thank you for your help in making sure your child is safely dressed for the gym!

Smart Watches
We have noticed that more and more of our students have begun wearing smartwatches to school, so we want to take a minute to be clear about expectations for those devices.

Students are not permitted to communicate on their personal devices during the school day. (The same rule applies to their iPads.) This includes parents. Additionally, smartwatches are only to be used to tell time during the day. Please help us in reinforcing this expectation.  If you need to contact your son/daughter during the day, please email your child's teacher or call the front office.

We have talked about these expectations with the students. We've let them know that if they are using their smart watch, cell phone, or other personal devices to communicate (or use any additional feature beyond telling time), they will receive one warning. After that one warning, we will ask for those devices to stay at home.

iPad Reminders
We use our iPads at some point each day as an important learning tool in the classroom. Please help us in making sure that your child's iPad is charged each night to 100%! We understand that life happens; if your child does not charge their iPad, please send their charger with them to school. We do not have additional chargers in the classroom.

Yearbooks for Sale
Our yearbook sale is now open! Each year we have a Town Center Yearbook that highlights photos from every class, school events, and staff. It is a great item to look back on memories from the year, and we even have a yearbook signing party in May. If you want to purchase a yearbook, please see the graphic below for the different options. As a reminder, the TCE Yearbook cost WAS NOT included in the TCE Trail Pass. If you would like a yearbook for your child(ren), purchase it using the website link below.

Our yearbook committee would also love your help submitting photos for the yearbook. As you attend campus events, if you have any photos you would like to share, see below for information on uploading them to our committee.

What are we learning?

Math Workshop - In Math, learners will represent numbers up to 1,200 using standard, expanded, word, and expanded forms. Learners can locate the position of a given whole number on an open number line and name a whole number that corresponds to a specific point on a number line. Learners will describe how they decide where to place a given whole number on an open number line.

Learners will also be taking their middle-of-the-year MAP math assessments. If you make sure their iPad is updated and charged to 100% each day, we will take care of the rest!

Reading Workshop - In Reading, learners will tell the lesson of a story using the mentor text Alexander Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday. They will also be taking their middle-of-the-year MAP reading assessments. In Phonics they will collect words that have prefixes and suffixes and add them to their Word Collection booklets.

Don’t forget your library books! Each Thursday we go to the library to read. Make sure to bring your books back so you can return and check out new books each week!

Writing Workshop- In writing, learners will write poems using different structures.

Social Studies- In Social Studies,  learners will understand the different types of landforms and bodies of water.

Science - In Science, learners will measure, record, and graph weather information regarding weather, including cloud coverage, and identify the importance of weather and season information to make choices in clothing and activities.
