Special Friends Day
Start With Hello
We are excited to launch Start with Hello Week at Town Center during September 18th to 22nd!
Program Overview
The Start With Hello program empowers students in grades K-12 to recognize loneliness and social isolation in their peers, offering effective strategies to reach out and help, and ways they can grow an empathetic and inclusive community. The program is designed around three goals that are accomplished using the program's framework and reinforced throughout the program cycle.
Goals
- Recognize loneliness and social isolation in peers.
- Help their peers who may be lonely and/or socially isolated.
- Grow an empathetic and inclusive community.
Program Framework
1. See Someone Alone: learn how to recognize social isolation and loneliness.
2. Reach Out and Help: learn the benefits of helping peers who are lonely or socially isolated as well as strategies to overcome challenges.
3. Start With Hello: learn ways to help peers who are lonely and socially isolated as well as help create a more connected and inclusive community.
Check out the graphic below to learn more about how we will reinforce these skills at TCE this year! 💚
Snacks
2nd grade will have a short snack time each day, while we work, to keep our brains and bodies fueled for learning. In order to ensure a safe classroom environment for everyone, we ask that you please DO NOT send any snacks that contain peanuts/tree nuts. Please send a small, healthy snack (ex: fruit, cereal, crackers, goldfish, etc.) each day that does not require a fork or spoon to eat. Additionally, please send a water bottle with a sports (no spill) top daily.
If remembering a snack each day is too much, you may choose to bring 5 snacks each Monday and have them ready for the week in your child's cubby. You may also choose to keep a "school-only" water bottle that goes home to be cleaned each Friday if needed.

iPad Resources/Updates/Charging
Next week we will begin slowly introducing our digital learning tools. We will begin the year with lessons on what it means to be a good digital citizen and get our iPads set up for a year of learning. Many iPads are in need of an update. Please make sure that your child's iPad is updated over the weekend. iPads will need to be plugged in and charged to update. We have extremely limited chargers in the classrooms, as chargers were sent home with iPads. Please make sure that your child's iPad is charged each night. If your child's iPad needs to be charged, please send your child to school with your charger.
Our Digital Learning Coach, Ms. Tinch, has also shared some parent iPad resources that you might find very helpful at home:

TCE Principal Newsletter
Each week Ms. Martin sends out her Town Center Principal Newsletter. Please make sure to check out all the important campus-wide announcements in the Principal Newsletter.
What we are learning?
Math Workshop - In Math, learners will determine whether a number up to 40 is even or odd using pairings of objects. Learners will use an understanding of place value to say a number that is 10 more or less than a given number up to 120. Learners will also explain the patterns they notice on a hundreds/120 chart. We will also take our Math MAP assessment this week as well.
Reading Workshop - In Reading, learners will work on reading in longer phrases, and keeping tabs on their comprehension. We will also be taking our reading MAP assessment and continuing with our MClass assessments at the beginning of the year. In Phonics, learners will explore r-controlled vowels and some "troublemaker" words.
Library Day is every Thursday! Please help your child remember to return their books so that they may check out new ones during our visit.
Writing Workshop- In writing, learners will revise and edit their narrative writing.
Social Studies- In Social Studies, learners will conclude our unit on citizenship and begin to identify how selected symbols, customs, and celebrations reflect an American love of individualism, inventiveness, and freedom.
Science - In Science, learners will demonstrate that things can be done to materials such as cutting, folding, sanding, and melting to change their physical properties. Learners will also compare changes in materials caused by heating and cooling.
