What are we learning?

Math Workshop - In Math this week, learners will determine the number that is 10 or 100 more or 10 or 100 less than a given number up to 1,200. Learners can represent whole numbers distances from any given point on a number line. Learners will also explain to a classmate how they decided where to place a given point on a number line. Additionally, we will continue, for the remainder of the year, reviewing and refreshing our addition and subtraction skills with borrowing and regrouping, both in and out of word problems. This is one of the biggest and trickiest skills we learn in second-grade math - we've got this!

Reading Workshop - In Reading Workshop this week, learners will look at 1st and 3rd person points of view using mentor texts Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. They will also take their February iStation assessment.

Writing Workshop- In Writing Workshop this week, learners will wrap up their poetry unit by writing a free verse poem. They have been working hard, and are SO excited to showcase their poetry with you on Friday, February 3rd. We hope that you can join us! In Grammar, learners will explore how prefixes change the meaning of words.

Mark your calendars to attend our poetry celebration that will be held on Friday, February 3rd. Please refer to the invitation above for specific class times and location. We are excited to share our love of poetry with you!

Social Studies - In Social Studies this week, we will be finishing a map of our "own town". We will also be starting to learn about landforms.

Science - In Science this week, learners will continue to dig into the weather by studying clouds! We will learn about different types of clouds, what they mean and what they can possibly bring!
