What are we learning?

Math Workshop - In Math this week, learners will begin our final unit on place value this year! Learners will compose and decompose numbers up to 1,200 in more than one way. Learners will also be able to listen to a number read aloud and decompose that number in more than one way. Additionally, we will continue, for the remainder of the year, reviewing and refreshing our addition and subtraction skills with borrowing and regrouping, both in and out of word problems. This is one of the biggest and trickiest skills we learn in second-grade math - we've got this!

Reading Workshop - In Reading Workshop this week, learners will begin a Junior Great Books unit on The Happy Lion.n They will be reading the story, formulating questions, and having a class discussion.

Writing Workshop- In Writing Workshop this week, learners will continue our poetry unit. They will learn about similes and metaphors, write poems, and respond to them. In Grammar, the focus will be on contractions and compound words.

Social Studies - In Social Studies this week, we will continue to learn about maps. We will be taking all of the information that we have learned about maps and the elements to start to plan and create a map of a town within a group.

Science - In Science this week, learners will continue to measure, record, and graph weather. We will be learning about a meteorologist, tools they use, as well as learning a little about severe weather they report out on.
