Supply Pick-Up
Virtual learners are invited to come pick-up additional learning supplies on Tuesday, April 6th from 7:30 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. in the front breezeway by the TCE entrance. Learners will have a packet to pick up with all of their handouts for the week of April 6th-9th. Please make time to come pick up your child's math packet on Tuesday so they will have all of their papers and handouts ready to go for the week of learning. You will also have a baggie to grab of toothpicks and marshmallows for our math 3D shape activity on Thursday, April 8th.

Please refer back to your child's packet from last week for their daily math warm-up for the month of April!

iPad Charging
Please ensure that your child is plugging in their iPad when they get home and charging it overnight. We have had an issue with a large group of learners in each class coming to school with their iPad dead. This makes charging at the same time hard and distancing even harder. We would love your help with iPads arriving at school charged.

HEADPHONES!
We have lots of kiddos who have lost/broken headphones. Please make sure that your child has a working pair of headphones for school.

What are we learning?

Math: In math, learners will compose two-dimensional and three-dimensional solids with given properties or attributes. We will also decompose two-dimensional shapes such as cutting out a square from a rectangle, dividing a shape in half, or partitioning a rectangle into identical triangles and identify the resulting geometric parts.

Language Arts: In Reading Workshop, learners will continue our nonfiction book clubs unit. They will have new topics this week.

In Writing Workshop this week, learners will continue to work on narrative writing, making it stronger by adding dialogue, vivid verbs, and descriptive adjectives. In Grammar, we will be working on stretching out our sentences. In Handwriting, we are learning new letters in cursive writing. YAY!!

Science: In science, learners investigate how seasonal changes affect organisms' behaviors.

Social Studies: In Social Studies learners will continue to explore how people earn, spend, and save money in a real-world context.

February Class Parties RESCHEDULED
Our campus has made the decision to move our second party of the year to May instead of the usual February Valentine's Day Party. We will still do some type of activity for the holiday, however, we will not have our usual full party or exchanged paper valentines/goodies. We look forward to planning the end of the year party with our room parents.

Reminder: A note from our counselor!
During the month of February, our counselor will teach all learners about personal safety using the "Play it Safe" program. "Play it Safe" is a child abuse awareness and prevention program for children. It teaches children to protect themselves by recognizing, reacting to, and reporting potentially dangerous situations, including unsafe and confusing touches.

For more information, please visit the "Play it Safe" website. All curriculum materials are available for your viewing during the month of January. Also, feel free to contact our counselor, Kelly Matlock, at kmatlock@coppellisd.com if you have any questions.

Free Breakfast and Lunch
The Child Nutrition Department is happy to announce that free meals for all in-person elementary students and free bundle meals for virtual learners have been extended through the rest of the 2020-2021 school year. In-person learners are able to go through the cafeteria line as usual and will not be charged for meals (snack food and dessert such as ice cream are available for an additional cost). We are still asking that virtual learners sign up for bundle meals via the Bundle Meal Signup Form to help give an accurate count each week.

Town Center Yearbooks

Our 2020-2021 Town Center Yearbook is now available for purchase. The cost is $25, and they will arrive in the spring. Click here to place your order. **Please note that the yearbook cost is NOT included in the TCE Trail Pass.

What are we learning?

Math: In math, learners will determine the number that is 10 or 100 more or 10 or 100 less than a given number up to 1,200. This is a great skill to practice at home or in the car, simply ask your child "what's 10 [or 100] more than" or "less than" a given number. The more they practice throughout the day, the stronger their skills will grow!

Language Arts: In Reading Workshop, learners will begin their first book club! They will be reading, responding, and discussing their books over the next few weeks. Please be sure to have your learner keep up with all assignments so that they are prepared and do not fall behind. Remember to keep up with your weekly iStation requirement and your Reading Logs!

In Writing Workshop we will begin looking at the structure of a friendly letter to send information to others.

Science: In science, learners will measure, record, and graph weather information regarding precipitation using the appropriate tools. Learners will also record and organize the data collected in a way that makes sense (ie. graphs, tables, charts, etc).

Social Studies: In Social Studies we will continue with our Landforms unit. Learners will continue researching a landform of their choice using books found in EPIC and create a presentation to share what they have learned.
