CISD Family/Schools Relationships Survey Due by May 16th

Each semester, CISD surveys our families on their relationships with their child’s school. The Spring 2025 Family/Schools Relationship Survey is open now through Friday, May 16th. To participate, visit go.coppellisd.com/Spring25FamilySurvey then select your child(ren)’s school. If you have multiple children in CISD, we ask that you take the survey for each school your child attends in order for the schools to have feedback that is specific to them. Campus administrators are able to view the data from each parent survey, along with district administrators.

Please email input@coppellisd.com, if you would like to share any additional feedback or insight not covered in the survey or have any additional comments to share with the district.

Coppell Cares
Coppell Cares offers the Weekend Backpack Program for families who have financial need. Each Friday, learners receive a bag of snacks for the weekend. The goal of the program is to help eliminate food insecurity for children. They provide nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack items to eligible CISD children (and siblings). This weekly food program helps feed children over the weekend during the school year when they are not receiving meals at school.

If you would like your child(ren) to participate in this program, please complete the online application below. If you would prefer a paper copy to be sent home with your child, please email TCE's counselor, Kelly Matlock at kmatlock@coppellisd.com. Families may sign up for this program at any time during the school year. Deliveries will begin Friday, September 6th. Deliveries will be suspended for Thanksgiving week, Winter Break, and Spring Break.

We are excited to have so many of our learners that have been out sick back at school. We'd love to meet our campus attendance goal of 97%, and we will keep you all updated weekly on our progress. As a reminder, if your child is sick, we want them to stay home and rest. Our district attendance policy states, "Students must be free of fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea for 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school.” Otherwise, we'd love to have them at school in order to maximize their instructional time with teachers and make the most of their school days. If your child does need to miss school due to being sick, please reach out to your child's teacher to find out what work they need to make up.

Math Workshop - In math workshop, learners will use standard and metric units of measurement to measure objects and models. Learners will describe the relationship between the size of the unit and the number of units needed to equal the length of an object.

Reading Workshop -  As we continue to work on comprehending nonfiction texts, our readers will practice considering an author's purpose and point of view.

Writing Workshop - In Writing, we will be revising and editing their animal research. In grammar we will continue learning about idioms.

Social Studies - In Social Studies, learners will explain the choices people make about earning, saving, and spending money.

Science - In Science, learners will compare and describe the stages in the life cycles of a butterfly, frog, and amphibians.

  • Ask your child how to determine if they should measure something in inches, feet, or yards.
  • Ask your child what the word estimate means. How did they use estimating in measurement this week?
  • How do geese work in a group? Why do lions hunt in packs?
  • Ask your child what animal they picked for their writing projects.
  • Why is it important to budget your money?
  • Working on reading high frequency words fluently is a great way to build reading skills!

2nd Grade RoughRiders Baseball Game Field Trip

Second grade will go on a field trip to RoughRiders Education Day at the ballpark on Tuesday, May 13th. Second graders will spend time leading up to our field trip exploring grade-level topics with a baseball lens. We'll then go out to the ballgame to help us connect our learning to the real-world experience of watching a baseball game. Additionally, during the RoughRider's Education Day, they will have hans on, immersive stations sponsored by the Perot Museum, YMCA, Heritage Museum, and more.

We will be leaving school around 9:00 AM and won't arrive back to school until around 2:00 PM. Lunch will be provided at the ballgame as part of your ticket purchase and will consist of a combo meal with a hot dog and soda or water for each child. The RoughRiders have a veggie burger or gluten-free hot dog bun if your child has a dietary restriction. If your child has dietary restrictions that cannot be met by the substitutions, please reach out to your homeroom teacher.

The cost of the filed trip is $16.00 including admission to the Education Day ballgame and lunch. Your child brought home a permission slip on Monday, March 10th that needs to be signed and returned with cash only by Friday, March 28th. All parts of the permission slip need to be filled out for your child to participate in our field trip. We ask that you send in exactly $16.00, as change will not be given. We will be taking chaperones with us on our field trip to the RoughRiders game. Chaperones will be responsible for a small group of learners while at the ballpark. The cost of a chaperone ticket is $16.00 (lunch included) and chaperones will need to provide their own transportation to the ballpark. Chaperones can turn in their chaperone cost in the envelope with their child and check that they would like to chaperone our field trip. All chaperones must have a CISD background check (done online) completed at least 10 days before the date of the field trip.
