Thanksgiving Baskets - A Note From Nurse Crenshaw
Dear Parents/Guardians,

St. Ann's Catholic Parish is once again sponsoring Thanksgiving basket deliveries (or a pickup option at St Ann's Church if you prefer). This program provides families in need with a complete Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family. The baskets will be delivered to your home the weekend before Thanksgiving, so it is critically important that an adult representing the family be at the home between the hours of Noon and 4PM on Sunday, November 24th, 2024. The deadline to sign up for a basket is October 22nd, 2024.

Please fill out this form with all information requested. Please contact Nurse Crenshaw if you have any questions. kcrenshaw@coppellisd.com

Coppell Cares
Coppell Cares offers the Weekend Backpack Program for families who have financial need. Each Friday, learners receive a bag of snacks for the weekend. The goal of the program is to help eliminate food insecurity for children. They provide nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack items to eligible CISD children (and siblings). This weekly food program helps feed children over the weekend during the school year when they are not receiving meals at school.

If you would like your child(ren) to participate in this program, please complete the online application below. If you would prefer a paper copy to be sent home with your child, please email TCE's counselor, Kelly Matlock at kmatlock@coppellisd.com. Families may sign up for this program at any time during the school year. Deliveries will begin Friday, September 6th. Deliveries will be suspended for Thanksgiving week, Winter Break, and Spring Break.

Math Workshop - In math workshop, learners will organize a collection of data with up to four categories by using bar graphs with intervals of one. Learners can draw conclusions and make predictions from information in a graph.

Reading Workshop - Our readers have been exploring syllables and breaking down words to help them read and spell.  This week we will explore the consonant -le pattern.  Words like table, trouble, puddle follow this pattern.  We will also continue our non-fiction unit by studying how text features like captions, and headings help us to learn as we read.

Writing Workshop - In writing workshop, learners will write nonfiction books to teach others. We will write to a specific audience. In grammar we will learn about action verbs and use them in our writing.

Social Studies - In Social Studies we will learn about why citizens vote for public officials.  At the end of the week, ask them who might make a better leader - Duck or Grace?

Science - In Science, learners will describe how resources are used and differentiate between natural and manmade resources.
  • Ask your child to tell you a number greater than 1,060. Ask your child to tell you a number less than 1,200.
  • Ask your child to tell you words that follow the "rabbit rule" - a vowel followed by 2 consonants.
  • Ask your child about levels of sound used in everyday life such as a soft safe whisper or a loud fire siren.
  • Ask what they chose to write in our non-fiction unit. What will they teach them about their topic?
  • What does a mayor do? How is his job different than the governor?

What is a color run? Join us on Friday, October 18th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. as our PTO hosts a fun-filled obstacle course around the TCE campus! Students and registered participants will run through exciting obstacles while being sprayed with colorful chalk!

How do we get a shirt? Every TCE learner will receive a FREE t-shirt! Parents and siblings who want to join the fun can register through the link provided. Registration is open until Thursday, October 3rd--and yes, shirts are included! Plus, your registration contributes to your student's class goals!

How can I donate? There are two ways to donate. You can donate online via the PTO website or send in cash/check with your student. Just make sure it is in an envelope and include the student's name and the teacher's name. You can also share the donation link with family and friends! The top student fundraiser in each grade will be honored with the chance to lead their grade in the run!

Hungry? Preorder pizza for the event through the PTO website! Orders must be placed by October 11th to ensure it's ready and waiting for you on event day!

Don't forget to ask your students about their class goals and prizes--this is an exciting time for our TCE family! Thank you so much for your support! 100% of your donations go directly to the PTO to fund essential activities and resources for our learners and staff. We couldn't do it without you!

Math Workshop - In math workshop, learners will generate a number greater than or less than a given whole number up to 1,200. Learners will use place value to compare and order numbers up to 1,200 using comparative words, numbers, and symbols.

Reading Workshop - Our super readers have been working on understanding non-fiction books, articles, and texts. We will practice using our prior knowledge and the text features of non-fiction books to find just the information they need when reading.

Mrs. Mancuso taught us a new way to find non-fiction ebooks when we went to the library this week! Ask your child to login to SSO, go to MackinVia, and show you the non-fiction books available in Capstone Interactive!

Writing Workshop - In writing workshop, learners will write nonfiction books to a specific audience. In grammar, we will learn about plural nouns and be able to use them in their writing.

Social Studies - In Social Studies we will continue our study of public officials by comparing the roles of city, state, and national leaders.

Science - In Science, learners will be able to explain what sound is and how different levels of sound are used in everyday life, such as a soft safe whisper or a harmful loud fire siren or concert.

  • Ask your child to tell you what is 10 more/less and 100 more/less than a given number up to 1,200.
  • Our readers are bringing home their 1st 9 weeks of high-frequency flashcards.  Ask them to practice them - once they have mastered reading them, they can move on to practicing spelling them correctly each time they write them.
  • How is sound made?
  • Ask your child about the leaders of our city (mayor), state (governor), and national (president) government and the roles each one plays in helping our communities!
