Solar Eclipse Viewing Information

Please see the following message from Ms. Martin:

Hello Town Center Families,
Coming up on Monday, April 8, 2024, between the hours of 12:30 pm and 3 p.m., the DFW area will be in the path of a total solar eclipse. This phenomenon presents an incredible science educational opportunity for all students in our district. Residents in the path of this solar eclipse will not be able to see another one in their lifetimes without significant travel.

Our educators in Coppell ISD will be taking a few minutes of their day to allow students to safely witness the eclipse. Many of those educators have amazing activities and lessons planned to support learning for students in all grade levels. Safely viewing this eclipse is a priority for Coppell ISD. All students and educators will be using certified eclipse viewing glasses provided by TCE or projection techniques that don’t involve looking toward the sun.

The dates are outlined for the remainder of the year below. Thank you for your help in making sure your child is safely dressed for the gym!

Smart Watches

We have noticed that more and more of our students have begun wearing smartwatches to school, so we want to take a minute to be clear about expectations for those devices.

Students are not permitted to communicate on their personal devices during the school day. (The same rule applies to their iPads.) This includes parents. Additionally, smartwatches are only to be used to tell time during the day. Please help us in reinforcing this expectation.  If you need to contact your son/daughter during the day, please email your child's teacher or call the front office.

We have talked about these expectations with the students. We've let them know that if they are using their smart watch, cell phone, or other personal devices to communicate (or use any additional feature beyond telling time), they will receive one warning. After that one warning, we will ask for those devices to stay at home.

iPad Rollout - 2nd Grade

Please see the following message from Ms. Martin:

Town Center Families,

I want to share that the iPad exchange for new iPads for 2nd-5th grade Town Center students will occur on March 21st. Your child will need to bring in his or her current iPad, charger, and any accessories, including their case/keyboard and Apple Pencil (if applicable) for this exchange.

Backup Instructions

To ensure a smooth transition and preserve any data not saved on the cloud, we kindly ask all families to back up their current iPads. Click on the link below to back up the iPad.

iPad Backup Instructions

New iPad Features:

The new iPads will come with chargers and each classroom will get a set of an Apple Compatible Metapen or Epen that students will be able to use at school. Additionally, each student's iPad will be equipped with a keyboard case, enhancing functionality and versatility.

Parent Support Resources:

This link — www.bulbapp.com/u/family-resources~3 — includes information on the district’s iPad filtering system and how to set up a screen guide for parental controls of the iPad when at home.

As a reminder, all CISD iPads are filtered by the district’s filtering system, Lightspeed, whether they are used at a CISD school or facility, at home, or another location.

ScreenGuide is an app from Mosyle, CISD's device management provider, that allows parents and guardians to manage school-issued iPads. Through this app, you can do things like configure screen time limits, remotely lock the iPad, lock the iPad into an app, and hide certain apps. To learn more, visit www.bulbapp.com/u/screenguide-parental-controls.

The Device Protection Plan, which families had the opportunity to purchase in the fall, will apply to these new iPads. For those who haven’t purchased the Device Protection Plan, you can still participate for a pro-rated cost of $15 per device, if purchased between Feb. 26 and March 29.  Visit www.coppellisd.com/deviceplan for more information.

These new iPads are part of the voter-approved CISD Bond and come with enhanced performance and features, promising to elevate the learning and working experience for CISD students and staff. In today's digital age, iPads have become an essential teaching tool, integral to the CISD learning experience, and crucial for state standardized testing, which is now conducted online and begins in third grade.

Thank you for your support of this iPad exchange.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Martin
