2nd Grade Announcements

  • TCE Author Visit - On Wednesday, April 26th, author Nancy Churnin, will visit Town Center. She is an award-winning children's booth author who writes about people who have made the world a better place. 
While at TCE, she will sign copies of her books for learners. This is optional, but if you are interested in purchasing one of her books through Amazon or a bookseller, please send it to school with a sticky note including your child's name and homeroom class by Tuesday, April 25th. Mrs. Mancuso will collect books from homeroom teachers to have Nancy Churnin sign during her time at TCE.

  • Spring Family Picnic/Room Mom Message - Please mark your calendars for the TCE Spring Family Picnic, which will be held on Thursday, May 4th. As part of the PTO Fundraising efforts, we will be raffling off grad-level baskets. 2nd Grade chose Ice Cream Sundaes for our theme, and we need your help to fill our basket with items. Please sign-up below if you are able to help! all items will need to be dropped off to Emily by 4/24. See the link for more information. Click here for the sign-up link! The Spring Family Picnic will have a DJ and an option to buy food. It's a chance to mingle with other TCE families and we look forward to seeing you there! Stay tuned for more information!   • May 6 Bond Election Information - Coppell ISD residents, who are registered to vote may cast a ballot in the May 6 Bond Election. Voters will be asked to vote "FOR" or "AGAINST" the $321.5 million bond measure on May 6. In accordance with state law, the bond referendum will be presented as four separate propositions.

  • KidZania Field Trip - We had so much fun on our field trip last week to KidZania!! We were able to practice our social studies and personal finance skills in REAL LIFE! Check out the video below (or linked here) to see all the fun we had:
  • Mrs. McKinney's Maternity Leave - Mrs. McKinney's family welcomed their newest member on Friday, February 24th. Both mom and baby are doing well and the family is enjoying their newest member of the McKinney party of 5! As a reminder, Mrs. McKinney is out of the classroom on maternity leave and will return during the month of May. What are we learning?

Math Workshop - In Math this week, learners will explain that the more factional parts used to make a whole, the smaller the part; and the fewer the fractional parts, the larger the part. Learners will use models to count fractional parts beyond one whole using words and recognize how many parts it takes to equal one whole.

Reading Workshop - In Reading Workshop this week, learners will be participating in a Junior Great Book Blue Moose. They will do several readings of the story, look at vocabulary from the text, and participate in a class Socratic-style discussion at the end of the week. 

**The Second Grade Reading Requirement log is due on Friday, April 28th**

Writing Workshop- In Writing Workshop this week, learners will finish drafting and begin writing their final copy of the nonficition research writing. In Grammar, learners will explore comparative and superlative adjectives. 

Social Studies - In Social Studies this week, learners will continue to explain the choices people can make about earning, spending, and saving money by exploring the development of a product from a natural resource to a finished product. 

Science - In Science this week, learners will connect organisms in a similar habitat through a food chain.
