Announcements

Reminders from your Second Grade Teachers

*iPads - Please remember to send your child's iPad each day to school fully charged.

*Headphones - Please check with your child that they have working headphones/earbuds at school. Learners have many times when they are watching a video or can listen to directions and/or books and apps that need audio. Thank you so much for your help with this!

*Snack - We have a short snack time each day. It is important that they have a healthy and nutritious snack each day to fuel their bodies. We also ask that the snack you send be completely free of peanuts/tree nuts. This will help provide a safe environment for all learners.

Dallas Zoo Field Trip

Second grade will be traveling to the Dallas Zoo for our grade level field trip on Thursday, May 5th. We will be leaving the school around 9:00 am and returning around 2:00 pm. Students should plan on packing a paper sack lunch that does not need to be refrigerated and disposable drink to throw away (no glass containers) or buy a sack lunch from the cafeteria on the day of the field trip. Your child will need to wear their gray grade-level t-shirt or another TCE shirt would be appreciated. More details and information for parents and chaperones were sent out in ParentSquare on Friday 4/29! Thank you for turning in all of the needed forms and fees and thank you to the parents/caregivers that have volunteered to chaperone!!

Parent Panorama Survey

It is time for our TCE families to complete the spring Panorama Survey. Below is the link for you to use. If there are any questions that do not apply to you, you can leave those blank. Our survey window will be open until May 13th. While these responses are helpful for the district to see an overall picture, it is also helpful to us as a campus. Our administration team is able to view family responses to see both strengths of our campus and areas of growth that we can help support. Thank you in advance for participating.

End of Year/Summer Resources

It's hard to believe that we are coming to the end of the year. We will be sending home optional resources at the end of May that you can use to supplement your child's learning at home over the summer to prevent the summer slide! If you have any concerns about your child please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher or content area teacher (Trueblood-writing/science, Bowman-math, Judd-reading/social studies). We will not be offering end-of-year conferences after May 13th due to the crazy schedule that occurs at the end of the year.

What we are learning?

Math - In Math, learners will use standard units of length (meters, centimeters, inches, feet, yards) to find the length of objects. Learners will determine the length of an object to the nearest marked unit using rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, or measuring tapes. Learners will describe (using academic vocabulary) the inverse relationship between the sid of a unit and the number of units needed to qual the length of an object.

Optional Addition & Subtraction Practice Papers for Home

Reading- In Reading Workshop over the next few weeks, we will wrap up our year by having Roald Dahl novel study. 2A will be reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and 2B/2C will be reading The BFG. We will dive deep into character traits, compare & contrast story elements and enrich our vocabulary.

Writing- In writing, learners have been doing a great job researching a non-fiction topic. They have used at least 3 different resources to collect information. They will now be looking at their research notes and writing them in paragraph form, focusing on writing goals and skills.

Social Studies- In Social Studies, learners will continue our economics unit by crafting/making their products and building an inventory in preparation for Market Day towards the end of the school year. They will spend 2 weeks getting products assembled and ready to sell.

Science - In Science learners will identify the parts of a variety of animals and describe the purpose they serve.
