Announcements

Reminders from your Second Grade Teachers

*iPads - Please remember to send your child's iPad each day to school fully charged.

*Headphones - Please check with your child that they have working headphones/earbuds at school. Learners have many times where they are watching a video or can listen to directions and/or books and apps that need audio. Thank you so much for your help with this!

*Weather - As our weather outside is colder, please remember that we will still be going outside for recess. District policy states that if the "feels like" temperature is above 32 degrees we will be going outside for some fresh air. Please make sure your child has dressed appropriately for recess weather.

*Snack - We have a short snack time each day. It is important that they have a healthy and nutritious snack each day to fuel their bodies. We also ask that the snack you send be completely free of peanuts/tree nuts. This will help provide a safe environment for all learners.

Valentines Day

Our class Valentine's Day party will be on Monday, February 14th @ 2:00 pm. Please have your child address a valentine's card to each child in their homeroom. The names of the students in our class were sent home the week of January 24th-28th and emailed out too. You may attach a small treat to the card (if you would like) but please make sure all treats are peanut/tree nut-free.

Students should decorate and bring their own decorated bag or box from home to hold their valentines. Please have your child bring their box/bag and a bag of cards to school the week of February 7th and no later than February 11th.

All elementary campuses will be able to have the 1-2 assigned PTO room parents attend and run the parties on February 14th. No other parents or visitors will be able to join that day!

Play It Safe

In February your child's Professional School Counselor will meet with all students about the topic of personal safety. Coppell ISD uses Play It Safe. Play It Safe is a research-based, age-appropriate abuse prevention program.

The purpose of this personal safety presentation is to provide all children with information and practical skills to protect themselves by recognizing, reacting to, and reporting potentially dangerous situations. Topics that will be addressed vary at each grade level as they consider the child's age and maturity level.

Our Professional School Counselors are the presenters and will visit with each classroom, K-5, for approximately 30-45 minutes. Stories, puppets, group discussions, and videos are used in the low-key, age-appropriate presentation.

You can obtain more information about the Play It Safe program at the following link: http://playitsafe.org/index.php. Also, feel free to contact your child's Professional School Counselor if you have any questions.

If you DO NOT want your child to view the Play It Safe Program, please email your campus' Professional School Counselor by Friday, February 4th. Your child's teacher will make sure that your child goes to an alternate learning environment during the Play It Safe presentation.

If you would like your child to participate in this valuable learning opportunity no further action is needed.

Sincerely,
Anne Lehew, M.Ed., PSC
Coordinator of Counseling and Social-Emotional Learning

TCE's counselor is Kelly Matlock. She can be reached at kmatlock@coppellisd.com.
