Welcome second-grade families! Thank you for taking the time to read our second-grade blog. Make sure you are checking weekly for calendar updates, what we are a learning and announcements for second grade!
What are we learning?
Reading: In reading workshop this week, we will continue with strategies to help us solve "tricky words." In writing workshop, we will continue to write narratives that contain a beginning, a middle, and an ending. We will look at proper nouns in a mentor text taken from our favorite story "Wayside School" in Grammar Talks.
Science: In science this week, learners will combine materials that when put together can do things that they cannot do by themselves such as building a tower or bridge and justify the selection of those materials based on their physical properties.
Social Studies: In social studies this week, learners will identify major landforms and bodies of water, including each of the continents and each of the oceans, on maps and globes.

Announcements
Parent Newsletter
Ms. Martin sends out a parent newsletter each week with many important announcements about TCE. Click here to check out this weeks newsletter.
Fall Conference Sign-Up
Fall conferences are coming up! We have October 5th set aside for parent/teacher conferences. Please sign-up using the link for your child's homeroom teacher.
Background Checks
CISD requires background checks on any classroom visitors, school volunteers, and field trip chaperones. A new background check is required each year. It can sometimes take several weeks to process, so we encourage all parents to complete one at the start of the school year. You can access the form on the CISD website or by clicking here.
