Book Fair Volunteers
Our semi-annual bookfair planning is underway and YOUR help is needed! Our success depends on volunteers like you will put an hour or more of your time to run the cash registers and help the kids find what they are looking for. Our book fair organizers have created time slots they hope will work in your schedule. Please feel free to sign up for multiple time/day slots! Your support is appreciated!!

Special Friend's Day
Special friends' day is coming up Friday, September 13th. The second-grade visiting hour is from 10:30-11:30. We encourage you to send a friend/grandparent/neighbor/parent to school to visit your child, see our classrooms, and what we have been working on so far this year while enjoying a snack. After that feel free to look around the school, garden and stop in at the Book Fair.

What are we learning?

MathIn math this week, learners will generate a number that is greater than or less than a given number. Learners will also use place value to compare and order whole numbers using comparative language, numbers, and symbols (>, <, or =).

Reading: In reading workshop this week, learners will work on using metacognition as they read, using what the author says and their own thoughts to comprehend the text. They will also practice scooping up longer phrases as they read. In writing workshop, learners will work on revising their writing, including adding correct punctuation. They will also work on making plans and setting individual goals for their own writing.

Science: In science, will continue to classify matter by physical properties, including shape, relative mass, relative temperature, texture, flexibility, and whether a material is a solid or a liquid. We changed the physical state of items this past week by making ice cream, changing its temperature to go from a liquid to a solid-state.

Social Studies
In social studies this week, learners will continue researching historical figures who have shown good citizenship. They will collect their findings, and learn to cite sources.

Solids and liquids are MORE fun making ice cream!
